Ben Vokits
Benjamin Vokits currently serves as principal tubist of the Greenwich Village Orchestra and the Richmond County Orchestra. He has performed with numerous other ensembles, including NOVUS NY, Wet Ink, and American Ballet Theatre, with repertoire ranging from contemporary to classical and rock. He also teaches a small studio of low-brass students.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Ben attended Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, where he studied tuba performance and chemistry as a double-degree student. He earned his bachelor of music degree under the tutelage of Rex Martin and Wesley Jacobs. After college Ben relocated to Indianapolis, where he recorded three albums with the eclectic rock group The Born Again Floozies, an EP with rockabilly group The Tumbleweeds, and two jazz albums with The Accidental Arrangements.
As a soloist, Ben has performed the New York premiere of Philip Sparke’s Tuba Concerto and presented Tubby the Tuba with the Greenwich Village Orchestra in a concert aimed at inspiring young children.
